Spey 101: A Introductory Class to build your Spey Fishing Foundation!

Rogue River Spey

A past customer gets his Spey on.

In the 90’s there were only a handful of Spey and Switch rods on the Rogue River. I was intrigued by their “fishability,” and I marveled at the beauty of their loops. It wasn’t long before I found one in my hands. shortly after I found myself under the instruction of great casters like Way Yin, and Steve Choate. Beyond the casting I was taught several different fly presentations specifically designed for the Rogue, and other sea going rivers, by a Rogue Spey Veteran Fred Evans. It’s been well over a decade since then, and the time on the Rogue, and the careful study of all things Spey, have added to the foundation these men set in place. Early on, I also realized the benefits of Spey and Switch Rods in the trout world, and adapted its use to swing the Williamson, Sprague, and Wood Rivers more effectively. This course is a economical way to figure out how to enter the Great Sport of Spey Fishing, and what better place to learn then on the famed Rogue River!
